The Coonamessett has that classic Cape Cod feel without being overly nautical or touristy. It's a beautiful mix of coastal charm and modern style, with gorgeous grounds, a pond for waterfront photos, and bright, welcoming spaces that photograph really well. If you're dreaming of a Cape wedding but still want everything to feel polished and elegant, this venue checks a lot of boxes.

What I love most is how relaxed the whole day feels here. Everything is close together, which means we spend less time running from place to place and more time making great photos. Between the gardens, the waterfront, and the clean, timeless reception spaces, there's no shortage of beautiful spots to sneak away for a few portraits. If you want your wedding to feel like a weekend getaway for everyone you love, The Coonamessett is a pretty hard place to beat.

Ceremony

Hidden secret gardens? Yeah, the ceremony spot at the Coon is pretty cool. It's honestly an old gazebo (as of the writing of this) but it looks like it belongs there. It looks natural with matured trees and shrubs all around the area. It simply looks,. . . special. Unique. Private. Gorgeous. It's only steps from the reception and I don't think it's ever in direct sunlight. It's comfortable and cozy.

Coonamessett Inn

What if it rains?

If it rains, you're in doors with not a ton of options.  The ceremony is really beautiful.  They push the reception tables to the side and create an aisle with the chairs that extends from the room's entrance to the wall of windows.  It has a very nice look for pictures.  The hope is that any rain is just a passing shower and at some point before the sun sets we can hop out and get a few shots in the garden.  Even if it's pouring, let's run out to the gazebo to get covered and still get those gorgeous backgrounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth a great place to get married?

You're "On Cape" without all the overly Cape vibes everywhere.  You're not on a beach with rando's walking through your ceremony.  You're not competing for parking and you're not at some ritzy high-end snobby place.  It's chill Cape vibes that hit right.  The gardens are gorgeous.  You've got rooms you can rent right on property.  The reception room is BIG, so you're not feeling cramped.

2. Where are the best places for wedding photos at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth?

That garden area just to the right of the room by the gazebo is freaking perfection.  Legit, that right there is stunning.

3. What's the best time of day for portraits at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth?

Family and wedding party pictures would typically occur either immedaitely following "First Look" or direclty after the ceremony during cocktail hour unless you built in a gap between a church ceremony and arriving on property.

Regardless, at some point just before or near sunset I'll take just the two of you outside again for those soft-light intimate shots.  It should only take like 10 minutes but these are the shots you hire me for.  These are the jaw-dropping, tier enducing, OMG shots.

Cool thing is, that garden area is pretty covered from sun and angled so sun really isn't a huge concern most of the day so we can get creative great shots almost any time of day.

4. Is a first look a good idea at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth?

Absolutely!  The first look gives you a chance to truly see each other.  Express your thoughts.  BE together for a moment - away from everyone else.  Now you get to enjoy your own cocktail hour.  Now it's not such a whirlwind.  You're not as rushed, so less anxiety.  Totally worth considering.

For the traditional "I want to see her coming down the aisle", let me give some perspective.  First, when she gets there you need to just shut up and get married.  You can't stop and talk.  At a first look you can.  Second, that heart-fluttering HOLY CRAP feeling when all your guests stand and you realize this is real, this is happening!  That feeling doesn't go away just because you already saw each other.  It actually may be enhanced.

5. What happens if it rains on your wedding day at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth?

In all my years, I've only had maybe a handful of weddings that were 100% completely washed out.  It's so rare it's not worth discussing.  Yeah, maybe the ceremony gets moved indoors.  Maybe the family and wedding party pics are on the dance floor but there will almost certainly be an opportunity between drops to run outside for a few pics of the two of you.

It's a summer venue.  That means the sun sets late and any rain is probably a cloud burst that's gone in 20 minutes.  We WILL get outside for pics.  Just might not fit your timeline, but don't worry about that.  We'll get the shots.

6. How much time should we set aside for wedding photos?

I typically like an hour, but I'm SUPER efficient.  It really comes down to how large your group is.  How many in the wedding party?  How big is your family?  Are there divorces with step family?  Are there grandparents?  Do you want to include aunts, uncles, cousins?  The smaller the group the easier it is obviously.

7. Can we stay on schedule without feeling rushed?

This is my super power.  You could be WAY behind schedule, then it comes time for the family and wedding party pics and poof, you're back on schedule.  I can be amazingly efficient to power through all those combinations so you can lower the anxiety and not lose any of your wedding.

8. What's your favorite photo location at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth?

OK, that garden area is amazing, but it's kinda it.  I can get creative and get lost of different looks in that small space, but there's not much more outside of that area.

9. Have you photographed weddings at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth before?

I wouldn't be talking about it otherwise - absolutely.  There's a benefit to knowing the flow of things.  Where you're allowed to go and where's off-limits.  Knowing where the shadows will fall and knowing what will be in bloom.  Even just knowing how the staff approaches the day and their personalities.  It all helps make the entire day run smoothly for you.  There's an unspoken "nod and wink" between me and the day-of coordinator keeping everything perfect so you get the most out of the day.

10. What should couples know before getting married at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth?

There really aren't any "watch out for this" things going on at the Coon.  It's pretty straightforward and easy.

11. How many guests does The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth work best for?

It's a big room.  If you've got a huge wedding, it'll fit.  Smaller wedding?  Yeah, they can spread out the tables and make it look right without feeling like you're in a huge room.

12. Is The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth good for indoor and outdoor weddings?

The indoor ceremony is surprisingly nice, but you don't want to be stuck inside the whole day.  We'd want to get out for a few pics of just the two of you at some pont just to break it up a bit.

13. Where do you usually take family photos?

Simple, right in that garden area, literally as soon as you step out of the door from the building.  It's a perfect patio are with tons of great flowers behind you.

14. Is sunset really worth stepping away from the reception?

You're not getting a sunset at the Coon.  It's just too enclosed by trees.  BUT that soft light is totally worth going back out for a few more shots.  It's really a nice romantic look for the two of you.

15. What makes photographing weddings at The Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth unique?

It's all yours.  Yeah, they've got a restaurant on site but you wouldn't know it.  It feels like the day revolves around YOU, and not all venues can say that.
