I've done more weddings at Granite Links than I can count. Granite Links is one of those venues that makes people say "wow" the second they walk in. The views of the Boston skyline are absolutely incredible, especially as the sun starts to set, and they make an amazing backdrop for your wedding photos. Whether we're out on the terrace, overlooking the golf course, or catching the city lights after dark, there are so many opportunities to create something really special.
What I love about photographing weddings at Granite Links is that you get the best of both worlds. It feels upscale and elegant, but it never feels over-the-top or uncomfortable. The staff does a great job keeping the day running smoothly, which means you get to relax and actually enjoy your wedding instead of worrying about the schedule. Seriously, that's huge. The staff here are almost entirely pre-Covid, which means they ALL have stayed there many many years. That speaks volumes as to how the place is run and that translates directly to how they'll run your wedding! If you're looking for a venue with incredible scenery, a beautiful reception space, and one of the best skyline views in Massachusetts, Granite Links is tough to beat.
Ceremony
Their ceremony options are over by the 9s or inside the tent or Grand Ballroom. Any of those options will feel amazing, but let's focus on the main spot by the 9s. It's just on the other side of the parking lot, so your guests will walk the paths and cut across. If it's hot out, you and your guests are in direct sun the whole time. You're kind of placed up high overlooking the golf course so it's stunningly beautiful. Like, honestly, your guests will be shocked that they're seeing Boston to their right and nothing but rolling hills (the Blue Hills) in front of them.
Granite Links
What if it rains?
The indoor ceremonies are gorgeous. They're not a backup option - they're a legit option for any wedding. The Grand Ballrom is stunning, looking direclty at Boston. Same (but actually better view) in the tent.
I've never had a wedding get completely rained out here. There's always a point where it clears enough to pop outside and get a few shots. It's surprisingly easy at Granite Links. Just outside the entrance has amazing views of rolling green hills, flowers and shrubs. The back deck has the Boston view and absolutely perfect sunset. The tent, literally just step outside and you've got 100% awesomeness right there. Rain has never been a concern for me at Granite Links and I've done TONs of weddings there.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What makes Granite Links in Quincy a great place to get married?
Prestige. Everyone has heard of Granite Links. You know that. It's views of Boston are unlike any other venue. It has the Boston vibe but the calm Blue Hills rolling green hills of the golf course. It has plenty of parking and is super convenient. It's grand. From the ballroom to the tent you know you're getting something "top-shelf" for your wedding.
2. Where are the best places for wedding photos at Granite Links in Quincy?
Anything looking towards the city is going to be amazing.
For photography, however, you've got to have a skilled photographer that can actually make the city (which is 9 miles away) appear in the image and not be blown out. It's not easy and only a few photographers know how to do it right. For those specialty shots of the two of you with the city, I can nail it.
3. What's the best time of day for portraits at Granite Links in Quincy?
Family and wedding party pictures would typically occur either immedaitely following "First Look" or direclty after the ceremony during cocktail hour unless you built in a gap between a church ceremony and arriving on property.
Regardless, at some point just before or near sunset I'll take just the two of you outside again for those soft-light intimate shots. It should only take like 10 minutes but these are the shots you hire me for. These are the jaw-dropping, tier enducing, OMG shots.
4. Is a first look a good idea at Granite Links in Quincy?
Absolutely! The first look gives you a chance to truly see each other. Express your thoughts. BE together for a moment - away from everyone else. Now you get to enjoy your own cocktail hour. Now it's not such a whirlwind. You're not as rushed, so less anxiety. Totally worth considering.
For the traditional "I want to see her coming down the aisle", let me give some perspective. First, when she gets there you need to just shut up and get married. You can't stop and talk. At a first look you can. Second, that heart-fluttering HOLY CRAP feeling when all your guests stand and you realize this is real, this is happening! That feeling doesn't go away just because you already saw each other. It actually may be enhanced.
5. What happens if it rains on your wedding day at Granite Links in Quincy?
In all my years, I've only had maybe a handful of weddings that were 100% completely washed out. It's so rare it's not worth discussing. Yeah, maybe the ceremony gets moved indoors. Maybe the family and wedding party pics are on the dance floor but there will almost certainly be an opportunity between drops to run outside for a few pics of the two of you.
I recently had one where it was pouring during what should have been portraits. No worries, sunset was late and we just dipped out for a few minutes after dinner. It's easy and gorgeous there.
6. How much time should we set aside for wedding photos?
I typically like an hour, but I'm SUPER efficient. It really comes down to how large your group is. How many in the wedding party? How big is your family? Are there divorces with step family? Are there grandparents? Do you want to include aunts, uncles, cousins? The smaller the group the easier it is obviously.
7. Can we stay on schedule without feeling rushed?
This is my super power. You could be WAY behind schedule, then it comes time for the family and wedding party pics and poof, you're back on schedule. I can be amazingly efficient to power through all those combinations so you can lower the anxiety and not lose any of your wedding.
8. What's your favorite photo location at Granite Links in Quincy?
The area just outside the main entrance. We look in one direction and we see the city. Spin around and I've got greenery, rolling hills and beautiful plants. Super easy, efficient and tons of variety.
9. Have you photographed weddings at Granite Links in Quincy before?
I wouldn't be talking about it otherwise - absolutely. There's a benefit to knowing the flow of things. Where you're allowed to go and where's off-limits. Knowing where the shadows will fall and knowing what will be in bloom. Even just knowing how the staff approaches the day and their personalities. It all helps make the entire day run smoothly for you. There's an unspoken "nod and wink" between me and the day-of coordinator keeping everything perfect so you get the most out of the day.
Seriously, click the link above for "Full wedding galleries" and you'll see just how often I've shot at Granite Links. It's insane how often I'm there.
10. What should couples know before getting married at Granite Links in Quincy?
No red flags. It's a great venue that knows what they're doing. No pittfalls to look out for. You're all good here.
11. How many guests does Granite Links in Quincy work best for?
Totally scalable. You can have HUGE or small and intimate and it'll feel right either way.
12. Is Granite Links in Quincy good for indoor and outdoor weddings?
Yeah, I think the granduer of their properties makes it easy if you're stuck inside. Of course we'll still want to get outside if at all possible but it's not an ugly room with limited options. If you're in the tent you can literally just open a flap and point outside and boom, you just got outdoor pics without getting a drop on you. Tons of flexibility.
13. Where do you usually take family photos?
The back deck is always a great option. The main entrance is perfect too.
14. Is sunset really worth stepping away from the reception?
I have NEVER - not - gotten an amazing sunset at Granite Links. Think about that - in all the years and all the weddings, the sunset has NEVER failed. The property is set high looking due-west. It's just designed for perfect sunsets.
15. What makes photographing weddings at Granite Links in Quincy unique?
The staff, really. Many have been there over 10 years. They know what they do and they do it right. That's unique in the wedding industry that typically cycles through staff. Not just the managers and room captains, but also the servers, bartenders, etc. They stay, and that says a lot.
