A photography perspective on this venue

This venue was literally made from the ground up to BE a wedding venue. Every decision about the layout, the flow of the rooms, access to the outside, and everything else was made through the lens of hosting weddings. It is absolute pure perfection — every inch of it. I'm not blowing smoke; I'm dead-ass serious. If you want a perfect wedding and can swing it, this is the spot. Period. Full stop.

Ceremony

They have a perfect patio right on the edge of the lake, facing intentionally southwest so your ceremony photographs aren't directly into the sun. They literally thought of everything. I gush when I think about this venue because every detail was thought out. You can see the intent behind everything.

What if it rains?

The ballroom faces the water, so even if you're inside, it's still gorgeous. Obviously, you want to be outside if at all possible. This is the kind of venue where you'll want to hop out for a few pictures with an umbrella even if it is raining. It's worth it.

It also has an overhang at the entrance, so you could stand under that and stay completely dry while still getting garden shots with all the foliage and plantings behind you, just like you would if it weren't raining. The architectural elements inside are so unique that you'll definitely have plenty of great options indoors as well. The back wall of the ballroom is all windows, so on a rainy or cold day, we could do pictures in front of those windows and still see the lake in the background.

Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter

The Lake House in Halifax, MA is still relatively new, so I've only shot there once so far. I could tell instantly, however, that it's designed and landscaped to accommodate all seasons. It won't matter what time of year you get married, or even if it rains on your wedding day — you're still going to get amazing pictures.
The entrance has that large overhang, so if it's raining, you can stand under it and stay completely dry while still getting all sorts of amazing pictures with flowers and trees behind you. They landscape with the seasons in mind, from spring flowers through summer and then autumn mums. The forest just to the right of the property displays peak foliage in the fall, and the lake will look stunning literally any day of the year regardless.

The Dance Floor!

This dance floor can be HUGE! You can easily have room for all your guests without it feeling too big or too small. It just feels... right. The whole room is the same hardwood, so it's not like a defined temporary dance floor. It scales to fit whatever guest count you have and still feels perfect.
It's super close to the bar, so when you're tired, you can just step away and have a seat in the comfortable chairs and couches right by the fireplace. It's also super close to the doors leading to the back deck if you need to step outside and get a breath of fresh air. This place was made for weddings, so everything is convenient and easy.

From the ground up, this venue was made specifically for weddings. Literally. It originally was a run-down dump until Saphire Event Group purchased it and basically razed the whole building to create something truly magical. Every inch of this property has intention behind it to make your wedding perfect. Think about that. That's a big statement for me to make about a wedding venue. I mean it.

Ummm, anywhere? Literally. They have SO much to offer for pictures. The lake. Just to the right of the lake is a little wooded area with trees and greenery. Up by the building are huge floral bushes. Along the side of the building are cool fencing designs. The entrance is grand but not overstated. Anywhere, everywhere. It's all good at The Lakehouse.

3 What's the best time of day for portraits at The Lakehouse by Saphire Event Group in Halifax, MA?

Family and wedding party pictures would typically happen either immediately following the First Look or directly after the ceremony during cocktail hour, unless you build in a gap between a church ceremony and arriving on property.

Regardless, at some point just before or near sunset, I'll take just the two of you outside again for those soft-light, intimate shots. It should only take about 10 minutes, but these are the shots you hire me for. These are the jaw-dropping, tear-inducing, OMG shots.

Absolutely! The First Look gives you a chance to truly see each other. Express your thoughts. BE together for a moment — away from everyone else. Now you get to enjoy your own cocktail hour. Now it's not such a whirlwind. You're not as rushed, so there's less anxiety. Totally worth considering.

For the traditional "I want to see her coming down the aisle" approach, let me give some perspective. First, when she gets there, you need to just shut up and get married. You can't stop and talk. At a First Look, you can. Second, that heart-fluttering HOLY CRAP feeling when all your guests stand and you realize this is real, this is happening! — that feeling doesn't go away just because you already saw each other. It may actually be enhanced.

5. What happens if it rains on your wedding day at The Lakehouse by Saphire Event Group in Halifax, MA?

In all my years, I've only had maybe a handful of weddings that were 100% completely washed out. It's so rare it's not worth discussing. Yeah, maybe the ceremony gets moved indoors. Maybe the family and wedding party pics are on the dance floor. But there will almost certainly be an opportunity between drops to run outside for a few pics of the two of you.

This is a "you'd prefer outside, obviously" kind of place. Indoor is okay, but it's really all about the gardens, lake, and landscaping.

6. How much time should we set aside for wedding photos?

I typically like an hour, but I'm SUPER efficient. It really comes down to how large your group is. How many are in the wedding party? How big is your family? Are there divorces with stepfamily? Are there grandparents? Do you want to include aunts, uncles, cousins? The smaller the group, the easier it is, obviously.

The Lakehouse is very strict on their timeline, and it's often not up to me. They run a tight ship and will direct things.

7. Can we stay on schedule without feeling rushed?

This is my superpower. You could be WAY behind schedule, then it comes time for the family and wedding party pics and poof, you're back on schedule. I can be amazingly efficient and power through all those combinations so you can lower the anxiety and not lose any of your wedding.

But, as I said before, the event staff guides the flow of timing, and they will shut it down and pull you away if we take too long. They're not very flexible with that part.

The lake. It has a perfect sunset right over the lake and it's simply stunning.

It's tight. I personally wouldn't go over 125. The more guests, the smaller the dance floor and the tighter everyone feels.

The point here is the landscaping and lake. Indoors is nice, but you're there for the property, not the inside.

OMG yes. The sun setting over the lake is the reason most people choose this venue. They know it, so they will often build that into the timeline, knowing exactly when sunset is.
